On the 12th day of August is celebrated in Thailand, the birthday of queen Sirikit, who was a royal consort of king Bhumibol Adulyadej, a figure much loved and revered as the "Mother of the Nation". That is why, when I was introduced to the Mother's Day as a public holiday nationwide in Thailand, soon was made to coincide with the celebration of the birthday of the queen.<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On 12 August the entire country wears the light blue and accompany their mothers to the temples to give alms. Also given garlands of jasmine flower, a symbol of purity and length, like the love between mothers and sons.<\/p>

And why blue? The choice of color is not random. In Thailand, every day of the week is associated with a specific color. And on Friday, the day of the birth of queen Sirikit, is represented by the blue.\u00a0In thai culture, it is assigned a color to each day of the week, depending on the color of the God who protects the day, according to the cosmology of the hindu. For example, Surya is the god of Sunday is associated with the color red.<\/span><\/p>

During the NINETEENTH century and early TWENTIETH century, it was common to see the courtiers thai to wear clothes according to the color of the day, believing that this would bring them good luck. Little by little, as their clothes were occidentaliz\u00e1ndose, it was losing this tradition.\u00a0<\/p>

Today, since it is not customary to dress according to the color of the day, however, that traditional code of colors remains in the thai culture and is manifested in special dates such as, for example, the August 12, the day of the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, born on a Friday, the day of the light blue color.\u00a0The yellow is commonly associated with the monarchy, because it is the color of the King, born on a Monday, just like his father.<\/span><\/p>

In Thailand it is given too much importance on the day of the week in which it is born. Most westerners know their date of birth, but not many know what day of the week it was. Do you want to know what is your color?<\/p>

Monday = yellow<\/p>

Tuesday = pink<\/p>

Wednesday = green<\/p>

Thursday = orange<\/p>

Friday = light blue<\/p>

Saturday = purple<\/p>
